Barcelona Arriving

As one of the world's most popular tourist destinations Barcelona has consistently provided a comprehensive range of travel options to the millions of visitors that arrive each year. El Prat International Airport is the main point of arrival for the majority of visitors to Barcelona as it handles frequent daily flights to all major national and international destinations. This large, modern airport is situated 14km south west of Barcelona city centre at El Prat de Llobregat.

Upon arrival at the airport visitors are provided with extensive connections to Barcelona and the surrounding areas. The airport's three terminals are directly connected to Cercanías Station from which RENFE trains regularly depart, (until 10:45pm each evening) for the stations across Barcelona; the cost of a standard fare is 2.10 euros. The short distance to the city is quickly covered by this efficient service and visitors arrive at Sants Station within 17 minutes.

The main bus service linking the airport and the city centre is the Airbus A1, which departs for the Plaza de Catalunya from Terminals A, B and C, every 12 minutes. Ticket prices to Barcelona are 3.45 euros, as the service is a specifically designed 24-hour airport shuttle. Autocares Juliá provide bus services from the airport to the towns of Figueres, Girona, Lleida, Reus and Tarragona.

Taxis provide a direct connection and are available from directly outside all three terminal buildings. A taxi fare to the city centre ranges between 13 and 20 euros on weekdays (depending on the final destination), which increases to between 15 and 22 euros in the evening, at the weekend and on national holidays.

Spain's second largest city also boasts a number of harbours and marinas that serve the enormous array of vessels travelling along the Mediterranean coastline. From Port de Barcelona cruise ships, ferries and high speed catamarans provide regular crossings to the Balearic Islands and major destinations across the globe.

Once in the city visitors discover the combination of excellent public transportation and splendid pedestrianised areas that make Barcelona one of the easiest European cities to explore. Train stations are located throughout the city and cover all Spanish and European destinations. The main stations are Sants, Estació França, Plaza Catalunya, Arc de Triomf and Clot-Aragó. The main bus station is the Estació del Nord with a minor station at Estació d'Autobuses de Sants. Barcelona also has a comprehensive underground system, the Metro, which provides fast, convenient transport to any location in the city. Ticket prices start at a minimum of 1.10 euros for a single journey. There are special value tickets available that prove extremely economical for visitors and highly recommended is the T10 for 6 euros.
